Ribbons & Rings

Written December 1998

Tab G, open 2

the living and the dying are the ribbons and the rings,
they are tied up like a May pole, and they circle everything
+++ so now your chaff is flying, and we watch it on the air,
+++ and wonder how what’s left behind is more than what was there..

I have seen you shining, and you’re not done shining yet,
and if I was a betting man, you’d be my safest bet,
+++ surrender big and little, we’ll surrender everything,
+++ from somewhere in the middle, you’re reminding me to sing..

draw a ring around your living, tie a ribbon ‘round this day,
there is nothing here that we can keep, let’s give it all away
+++ and wonder how what’s left behind is more than what was there,
+++ surrender big and little, we’ll surrender everything,
+++ from somewhere in the middle, you’re reminding me to sing,
+++ to sing…
