Out Of This Town

I drove across town to my regular show,
but when I got there, the sign on the door said “we’re closed!”
nobody bothered to let me know,
I’ve gotta get out of this town,
‘cause I’ve played for tips and too many drunks,
and one night last week I came home with 4 bucks,
it’s not as if I’m in this for yucks,
I’ve gotta get out of this town,

‘cause I’m just a frog in this very small pond,
and if I keep on croakin’ from dusk till dawn,
well, can anyone tell if I’m here or I’m gone?
I’ve gotta get out of this town..

I hauled all my stuff down to the coffee shop,
I’m in the middle of a ballad, it’s not a great place to stop,
when the guy behind the counters says, “hey, turn that down!”
I’ve gotta get out of this town,
I suppose it’s the same most everywhere,
you’ve got people who don’t, you’ve got people who care,
nobody said this life would be fair,
I just wonder why I stick around

‘cause I’m just a frog in this very small pond,
and if I keep on singin’ from dusk till dawn,
well, can anyone tell if I’m here or I’m gone?
I’ve gotta get out of this town..

in lots of ways this town’s alright,
‘cause the rent’s cheap and the people are nice,
and most of the time I like my life,
it’s just some nights I feel like a clown,
‘cause I had a lady who belched, one guy passed out and snored,
though he came back the next week and apologized for it,
he said, “cocaine and liquor, man, you understand,
by the way, can I play in your band”

that’s why I’m a solo frog” in this very small pond,
and if I keep on playin’ from dusk till dawn,
well, can anyone tell if I’m here or I’m gone?
I’ve gotta get out, will I ever get out of this town?..
