Graffiti (blink, blink, fading)

graffiti on the backs of buildings,
they triple-tagged the Central Market,
and like a dog that claims a hydrant,
I’d like to think they kind of own it..

I had a friend who died too early,
the accident was strange and random,
when I think of all the time I wasted,
I wish that I could give him some,
+++hey, hey, if the world forgets your name,
+++I guess you’re not to blame,
+++we’re all here just blink, blink, fading,
+++hurray! forget fortune and fame,
+++if someone’s glad you stayed,
+++remind me why you keep them waiting?..

it’s harder now to pay attention,
when we carry every sad distraction,
we crave the check-in on the action,
so blue skies find us looking down,
+++hey, hey, so the world forgot your name,
+++at least you’re not to blame,
+++there’s no shame in blink, blink, fading,
+++hurray! forget fortune and fame,
+++we’re all glad you stayed,
+++why’d you have to keep us waiting?..

graffiti on the arcs of bridges,
artists unafraid of falling,
as I pedal past the Last Chance Diner,
I wonder if I missed my calling..
+++hey, hey, when the world forgets your name,
+++we are all the same,
+++every star is blink, blink, fading,
+++hurray! forget fortune and fame,
+++someone’s glad you stayed,
+++you don’t have to keep them waiting…
