If you break a thing to fix it,
better learn how to make something new,
can’t just take the pieces and some glue, and mix it,
that will never do,
and if the thing you break is your heart,
no, it’s not an easy part,
don’t expect to mend it in a day
but when you’re sure it’d never find us,
a little milk of human kindness
washes over us and slips away

‘Cause it’s the same old giant jigsaw puzzle,
but nothin’ handy rhymes with puzzle,
nothin’ I could think of anyway,
It’s the same old roller-coaster ride,
we close our eyes and clench the things inside
that might have made it all okay…

So if you lose a thing to find it,
better know which way you’re headed out,
north, south, east, or west, don’t fret the choice so much,
but keep your wits about,
and if the thing you lose is love itself,
and your hearts an empty shelf,
don’t expect to fill it in a night,
but when you’re sure it’s all a game,
and that the rules will never change
a little milk of human kindness just might…come to light

’Cause it’s the same old giant jigsaw puzzle,
but nothin’ handy rhymes with puzzle,
that could tell us something anyway,
It’s the same old roller-coaster ride,
we close our eyes and clench the things inside that might have made it all okay…
So…
