Used

“Used” began with drum & bass tracking in December of 1999, done with Peter Beckerman at Mr. Small’s Funhouse, in Millvale, PA (at their old, pre-church location on Grant St.). Peter and I then did most of the overdubbing at my house, for the next 2 years or so, using ADAT XT digital tape recorders (yes, you could now call even digital tape “old school.”) We did record strings and horns back at Small’s, and then Peter mixed everything there as well, to DAT. Mastering was done by Scott Hull in NYC.

The title song, “Used,” appeared at the end of an episode of CBS’s hit show “NUMB3RS” on the first season, and was also used on NPR’s “Car Talk” radio show. “One Hit Wonder” was used on the ABC Family Channel’s show “Beautiful People.” I’ve sold over 1600 copies of “Used” in the 5 years since it came out. My personal favorite song is the last one, “Rising.” All told, by the time I had 2000 CDs in boxes arrive at my house for the first time, I had spent just over $30,000 making “Used.” And, I just (12/2007) paid off the last folks who loaned me money to make it! (they earned an over 50% return on their original investment, from interest over the years).
